A reflection....
Valentine’s Day is often filled with roses, chocolates, and heartfelt notes exchanged between loved ones. It is a beautiful tradition—a day set aside to appreciate those who bring joy, comfort, and companionship into our lives. But beyond the bouquets and boxes of sweets, Valentine’s Day invites a deeper question:
Are we loving ourselves…every day?
Tokens of Affection: The Language of Love
A token of affection does not have to be expensive or extravagant. Sometimes, the smallest gestures carry the greatest meaning:
A handwritten note
A warm cup of tea
A sincere compliment
A listening ear
A gentle touch
A simple “I appreciate you”
These small acts are reminders that love lives in the everyday moments. When we give love freely, we reflect the heart of God.
“Let all that you do be done in love.” — 1 Corinthians 16:14
Love is not only something we receive; it is something we practice. It is a choice, a posture, and a daily offering.
But What About Loving Ourselves?
Many people are quick to give love to others but hesitate when it comes to themselves. We may:
Speak kindly to friends but criticize ourselves
Offer grace to others but hold ourselves to impossible standards
Celebrate others’ successes but overlook our own progress
Yet scripture reminds us of a powerful truth:
“Love your neighbor as yourself.” — Mark 12:31
This command assumes something important: we are meant to love ourselves too.Not in a selfish or prideful way, but in a sacred, honoring way—recognizing that we are created in the image of God.
What Does Loving Yourself Every Day Look Like?
Self-love is not always glamorous. It is often quiet, consistent, and deeply spiritual.
It may look like:
1. Speaking life over yourself Replace harsh thoughts with gentle, truthful ones.“I am growing.”“I am loved by God.”“I am worthy of peace.”
2. Caring for your body Eating nourishing foods, resting when you are tired, and moving your body with gratitude.
3. Setting loving boundaries Saying no when something drains your spirit and yes to what brings you closer to purpose.
4. Taking time for reflection and prayer Even a few quiet moments each day can realign your heart.
5. Celebrating small victories Every step forward matters. Every effort counts.

A Valentine’s Day Practice Everyday
Today, consider giving three tokens of affection:
To someone you love – a note, a call, or a small gift.
To someone who may feel forgotten – a smile, a prayer, or a kind word.
To yourself – a moment of rest, a nourishing meal, or a gentle affirmation.
Love multiplies when it is shared—and it begins within.
A Prayer for Love
Heavenly Father,Teach us to love as You love.Help us to show kindness to others and grace to ourselves.Remind us that we are Your creation—fearfully and wonderfully made.Let our words, actions, and thoughts be rooted in love every day.Amen.
